Aberlour appeal for emergency funds to support families this winter

Many families facing poverty are relying on support from Aberlour to get essentials such as food, bedding and clothes, but the charity says they can currently only help one in four families in need.The children’s charity is facing unprecedented demand for cash grants from its Urgent Assistance Fund which helps pay for essentials, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.Now they have launched a new national Poverty Relief Appeal to raise funds to help support the country’s most disadvantaged families.A new TV advert follows eight-year-old ‘Emma’ whose normal family life is turned upside down as they struggle to cope with the financial pressures of the cost-of-living crisis.Aberlour relies on cash donations to help children like this facing poverty.Please donate to Aberlour's Urgent Assistance Fund via www.aberlour.org.uk/POVERTYRELIEFSallyAnn Kelly, Chief Executive at Aberlour Children’s Charity, said: “This is one of the most challenging periods families have faced in decades and Scotland’s poorest children face a dark, cold winter.“The worst-off families in our communities can simply no longer afford to put the lights on, heat their homes, put food on the table, or buy basic necessities for their children such as a bed or bedding.“Aberlour’s Urgent Assistance Fund has been a vital means to many in the last two years and every penny donated goes directly to families.“We are asking anyone that is in a position to contribute – however big or small the amount – to donate via our website.
