Students from Robert Gordon University (RGU) will compete on the BBC quiz show University Challenge for the first time in nearly 30 years.

The BBC Two show, which airs on Monday, will see four RGU students take on a quartet from the University of Roehampton. This is the Aberdeen university's second appearance on the BBC quiz challenge after last appearing on the popular show in 1994, reports Aberdeen Live.

This year, team captain Emily Cullen will lead Samuel Fregene, Faye Cooke, Donald Anderson and reserve team member Ingrid Taylor in the hopes of progressing. However, the first time they all met in person was for the recording of the quiz show - which is the longest running in the UK - having prepared for their intellectual battle via Zoom.Emily, now a trainee pharmacist at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, said: “I was obsessed with going on University Challenge, and all a person thinks about while the participation is still embryonic is how you/the team/the match will appear on telly."However, I can say hand on heart that the relationships we formed as a team made these concerns seem insignificant."It was beyond beautiful the bond that formed between myself, Donald, Faye, Samuel and Ingrid and we'd all have happily failed miserably in our endeavours if it meant we still got to meet each other and become friends for life."The show airs at 8.30pm on Monday, November 28 on BBC Two and can also be viewed live and on repeat via iPlayer.
