Several police vehicles and an air ambulance were called to football pitches off School Road in Blackpool shortly after 5pm on Tuesday to reports a child had been injured, LancsLive reports.
Police believe the boy had been struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. He was rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries'.
But tonight Lancashire Police have confirmed the boy, who has not been named, sadly died a short time later. The boy's family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
