Energy bills are expected to rocket this winter for around 15 million households whose fixed-term contracts are coming to an end, with fuel prices expected to go up even higher in April next year.

Experts at Cornwall Insight predict that the price cap, determined by the energy regulator Ofgem, will increase from the current level of £1,277 per year, which is already a record for an average household, to £1,559 per year in 2022.
