£1.6m boost for foster carers across Salford

Foster carers across Salford are to get a £1.6million boost in ther allowance payments. Salford city council says its Foster for Salford team and the Foster Care Association have ‘worked closely’ to ensure carers are ‘prioritised' in the council’s budget decisions ‘particularly through the cost of living crisis’.

Foster carers will receive a substantial increase to their current allowances with a 22 per cent rise in boarding allowances; 17pc in skills payments, 12pc in secondary school uniforms and birthday allowances and between 25 to 50pc for equipment.

This also includes a commitment to pay double allowances for birthdays and festivals, school proms and two weeks' payment for introductions.

The increases take effect from April 1.
